Whose wedding is it ??

I am the maid of honor at my sisters upcoming wedding. Of course I accepted this title when I was asked but I did not realize all the responsibilities that came along with this position. Now my sister asked someone else to be a matron of honor (complete mix up my sister is a big blonde and didnt realize that the maid of honor and the matron of honor are the same damn thing.) And after both of us knew… really nobody can bitch and complain right? Well I realized that I can. Because if you have two people in one position wouldnt you think the responsibilities would be split 50/50? Well in my case, they have not been split 50/50 at all. More like 90/10. For all of you who are unaware of the responsibilities that come along with the matron/maid of honor title… here is a list. (of course if you’re the maid of honor for my sister who doesnt make a solid decision a day in her life you can add like 20 more things to this list example: making sure they have a wedding favor & actually coming up with the idea, finding it on the net etc…)

matron/maid of honor duties:

Help in going with the bride to look at different locations for the wedding. Many times the Bride needs help in choosing where to have the ceremony and party besides what day and time to have the wedding. Ask if you can participate in this process since it can be a very stressful. - The matron of honor actually did help with this. She recommended the place that my sister actually chose. Okay I give her this one.

Bridesmaid dresses. It is very important to help make sure the dresses are ordered and arrive in enough time for alterations! It is helpful for you to attend the multiple fittings in giving your friend some feedback in how the dress looks and fits.- ME

I did not help my sister pick out her dress it is the ONE AND ONLY THING she decided on her own. Actually, she didn’t bring anyone with her when she bought her wedding dress. We all saw it after it when she decided to bring us to the shop to try it on for us.

Bridal Shower as well as the Bachelorette Party!- ME!!! (Although the matron of honor did cook for 4 hours the day before) so she gets some credit for the bridal shower too.

Help the bride choose her wedding invitations as well as possibly address the invitations if she needs your support. Many times a bride may outsource her invitations but if they need to be addressed by the family, your help will be key in reducing the load of tasks to complete.- ME

If the bride needs help in ordering and choosing decorations and favors, your opinions may be helpful in making decisions for narrowing down choices and making sure the decorations are in on time for the wedding, shower and bachelorette parties.-ME

Many times the groom does not want to go to register with his bride-to-be. You can be very supportive by going with your friend to register for her wedding gifts as well as letting other guests know where the bride and groom are registered. This is a very fun experience so take part in the choosing if she needs help.- Her hubby to be did register with her. BUT my sister asked me to go a seperate time to make sure she registered for everything they will need/want. YEAH SO THOSE FANCY KNIVES AND THAT ROASTER & EVERYTHING ELSE THEY GOT AT THE SHOWER… totally me. Yeah another saturday of MINE put towards their wedding.

Help the bride in the seating arrangement. This can be a very difficult process with the more people coming to the wedding. Many times it makes it easier to draw out the tables and move people around until you have a close to perfect fit. Note: It is very helpful to bring this drawing to the wedding just in case there are any mix-ups, you will save the day!- Yeah my sister wont even attempt this. She was like “I was just gonna put anyone anywhere” oh jeez… I will be doing this with her hubby to be & my mom guaranteed.

Help keep order and organization with the other bridesmaids. Attend and help out during the rehearsal dinner. Many times the bride, groom and their families are pre-occupied and forget about things which is where you can save the day by being organized.- My sister’s answer to anyone in the bridal party’s question “Ask my sister or my hubby to be thanks”… yeah ask the matron of honor anything she doesnt know.

Field messages for the bride and her family to make sure you are up on any changes (especially if they are last minute changes that affect the other guests).- Me

Attend all bridal fairs with the bride as well as cake and catering tasting.- My sister chose a place so well known for their food they do not do tastings they do not have to.

Some brides have a hubby to be that just do not help out as much as the bride would like… my sister is fortunate to have a great hubby to be who cares enough that he even designed their wedding invites after my sis said “Oh I dont care just pick any one of them” to ME. NOT MY WEDDING!! Thank goodness he cares… Or this wedding would really just be my wedding…without the commitment in the end haha. sweeeet haha.

Make sure the bride arrives to the ceremony and that she has everything on the maid of honor checklist. One of the most important tasks that a Maid of Honor must accomplish is to keep organized and have a list of items and tasks that need to be checked off to make sure nothing is forgotten on the wedding day! We have created a list below to help out. Make sure the following items are accounted for:

Dress

Bobby Pins

Make-up

Make Up for Touch-Ups

Clear Nail Polish

Nail Glue

Hairspray

Tissue

Perfume

Jewelry for the Bride and yourself

Wedding Dress shoes and a casual pair for after

Undergarments for the wedding dress

Needle, thread (white and color of bridesmaid dresses), and scissors

Contact solution/rewetting drops or glasses

Breath Mints

Pantyhose/Nylons (at least 2 pair)

Change of clothing for after

Phone numbers of all the important vendors

Watch

Any prescription medication the bride or groom is on

Plane tickets and luggage if the newlyweds are going on their honeymoon straight from the wedding

Extra money (just in case of emergency)

A friend to stand by for back up in case the car has flat tire or engine problems

Your speech

Card to give the bride (always a cute friend idea)

2 garters (1 to keep and 1 to toss)

Grooms Ring

Tylenol and Tums

Deodorant / Antiperspirant

Phone Numbers of all Important Family Members in the Wedding, Bridesmaids, Grooms

Toothbrush

Antacid

Cash (In small bills for tips)

(Oh yay… do you see my excitement … I get to pack all that crap…superrr)

Assist the bride in getting into her dress and makeup.
Be the messenger if the bride wants to communicate messages to the family or groom so you are always up on what is going on.
Visit the reception room and party room (if possible) to make sure there are no problems or issues. It is much better to be proactive.
Help make sure the bride has privacy if she needs some quiet time before the ceremony.
Be the witness in the signing of the marriage license which is an honor!- I was asked. I said I would be honored.
Help the bride with her veil and train (if she has one). I have seen many weddings where brides have tripped on their train which takes away from her experience for a moment.

Be your friend’s “right-hand-woman” at the altar. She may be very nervous and you can be the calming source with your presence. - yeah I got her calming effect in a flask thanks lol

Keeper of the brides bouquet during the ceremony. Make sure you have a free hand.- yes I will do this. I will even have tissues stuffed in my dress for her if she needs them.

Keeper of the groom’s ring. It is your task to also make sure the groom’s ring is in your possession at all times until you give the ring over to the bride!- yes I got this.

Make a toast and/or speech during the wedding party since it is tradition and most people love hearing these friendship stories!- Mine is going to make you laugh & cry…all in one speech.

Make sure you lock up the bridal/groom money bag after the bride and groom dance with all of their family and friends so someone does not steal or pick it up by accident. - I think Im gonna make sure my parents know where the hell this loot is. I do not want this responsibility. thanks.

Last, but not least, provide moral support and be a great listener throughout the process since it is a very wonderful and “positively” stressful time for your friend. You can really make the difference!- Yeah who is providing me with my support???

Too often, the duty of “straightening/fluffing” the Bride’s dress is overlooked. If the Bride is staying on a level, straight path, then this can be done before her descent down the aisle. However, if she is turning, or stepping up steps and/or turning to reach her destination, then the Maid/Matron of Honor should first adjust her train before accepting the bouquet to hold. This is most easily done by holding the train at points about (2) feet apart, and gently “shaking” the train (as if shaking a rug!) one good time, and it will fall beautifully in place.- I got this.

I cannot wait for my non-wedding related vacation at the end of this month. Florida bound to see the greatest family everrr. The last time I was there though.. Papa bear offered me food like every hour & I ate like a queen. I dont think I can do that this time. I got a maid of honor dress to fit into.  :) All of my vacation countdowns begin now… let their honeymoon countdown begin…now.

As long as they live happily ever after right? And I survive fairly unharmed from all the stress.

AND if you are as awesome as me… you make sure you add in a few extra special surprises here and there for their special day. -All organized by me, myself & I.

Hangover remedy made with love

Writing by Jessica on Sunday, 19 of April , 2009 at 11:44 am

hang·o·ver (hăng’ōvər) n. Unpleasant physical effects following the heavy use of alcohol.

hangover

Waking up with a hangover is the worst feeling in the entire world. If you are lucky enough to have someone who cares about you to help you through your hangover… here is what they need to do… (and I do mean someone who cares for you because chances are they babysat you while you were crazy drunk, gave you water to stop your dry heaving and rubbed your back and head until you fell asleep…and then to wake up and make the following for you served to you in bed… I want to say…that’s probably love at it’s finest lol)

Jessica’s hangover recipe:

utensils needed:

glass baking pan

counter top electric grill (if you dont have one invest and get one!)- you can make everything from grilled cheeses, eggs, bacon, french toast … you name it on these things!!!

bacon (as many strips as you want to cook… I made about 7)

Bisquit dough (pilsbury cans work fine)- combine three bisquits to make one big bisquit…this will make 3 huge bisquits and one little one (for me lol)

Scrambled eggs- cooked in the bacon grease on the electric grill.

Cheese- placed onto of the eggs to melt. Do this right before the eggs are fully done so the cheese melts but the eggs do not over cook.

Cut each bisquit in half. Place eggs/cheese/bacon onto each bisquit.

Serve the sandwich to them in bed with a large glass of orange juice, bottle of water and two motrin. - refill water all day long.

Remember- do not drink coffee. Cafeine will just dehydrate you more.

Put on sports center or your woman’s favorite channel… and leave the room. Eventually they will either fall back asleep… or get up and take a shower.

Like I said… it is time consuming. Chances are the person taking care of the hungover person really cares for them because if they didn’t they would say “babe your SOL and I got shit to do… here’s some water that is the best I got” LOLL.

But the above… really works. When you drink your liver releases a chemical that makes you feel like crap because it is breaking down the alcohol you consumed. You feel these effects HARD in the morning. Consuming fat (bacon grease) will help the pain of your hangover to go away. Your liver will start breaking down the fat you consumed and then start releasing a chemical into your body that will help you feel so so soooo much better.

If you are a vegetarian like me… here is what you should do…

Consume ice cream (something high in fat) or whole milk.

Eat a bowl of cereal or have a few scrambled eggs with cheese. I prefer Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal because it is high in protein. And of course that smaller bisquit was for me… I ate that also.  hehe.

Also drink a glass of OJ and a bottle of water. Grab a few motrin and you too should be okay to either go back to sleep or take a shower.

Iphone vs. Blackberry who would win in a fight?

Writing by Jessica on Monday, 13 of April , 2009 at 9:38 am

iphoneblackberry

I’ve been a blackberry fan/user for about a year now. I could rattle off tons of stuff that my blackberry pearl can do and how awesome blackberry messenger is…until now.

My blackberry pearl started giving me trouble two months ago. It started when it would just randomly delete texts. Then it started deleting important emails out of nowhere. Now… it is deleting contacts from my address book and my recent call list. So now nothing is safe if it is on my phone because at any given moment it can just delete it. (Even when saved!!). I thought it was just the pearl until someone I know who has a curve started having the same issue!

So as of yesterday I have joined the At&t network and bought an Iphone 3G. I am burying my blackberry somewhere deep in my closet and hopefully one night it doesnt grow legs and try and strangle me & my new Iphone in my sleep (considering the damn thing has a mind of it’s own already).

I was really on the fence about the Iphone and was actually considering going to Verizon so I could get the Blackberry storm. But then I realized…”why should I spend my hard earned cash on another product made by the same company that makes the pearl that is seriously f’ing-ml right now”. But there were a few down sides to the Iphone… the fact that you can’t get insurance on it. And I am proned to dropping..throwing…abusing my phone.  I know of a bunch of people who have dropped it at work on the marble floors and it shattered right down the middle of the screen. It is touch screen and with nails I wasn’t sure texting and working the Iphone would really work too well. But after some investigation I realized it’s not that bad and according to another friend of mine “…it’s awesome you can even do it when you’re drunk it corrects any misspelled words.”

I also know of someone who was not satisfied with the At&t customer service at all… so I was scared that switching I might go from a great company (but shitty phone) to a shitty company (but awesome phone). But it wasn’t that bad at all. I joined online.  Joining for me required no deposit to get it (apparently they run a credit check and some people need to put money down when buying an Iphone). I kept my number and my new phone should be here on Wednesday.  Everything went so smoothly. At&t customer service was very helpful and answered all my questions.

Now that I have officially joined the Iphone madness I am so mad that I didn’t get it awhile ago. (Before blackberry) because of the awesome applications you can get on it. There’s wayyy more applications for the Iphone than for the blackberry. Here is a list of the applications I cannot wait to try out (or just think are very amusing)…

The “shot gun” constitution

The bug zapper

goMovies

Flashlight LED

iPhlickr

The list goes on and on… I really hope the Iphone doesn’t disappoint me. I have high expectations. But just like my great friend Erin said about my ex boyfriend… “A male prostitute would be better than him”… Im thinking the same about my new Iphone… ANYTHING is better than this unreliable piece of shit.

Although, something tells me if the Blackberry was to fight the Iphone… it would pick up a folding chair ghetto style and CHEAT. My $ is on the Iphone though… something about having morals and fighting fair that makes me believe there is good in this world. GO IPHONE!!!

Playing Time Beyond Regulation- OvertimeNYC event

overtime-nyc

MidnightMakeout met up with Overtimenyc.com at the Taj Lounge in New York City on Thursday April 2nd. Taj lounge is a very sexy Indian-influenced lounge that allows you to forget the NYC hustle and bustle going on outside. There was a very nice guy-girl ratio at this Overtime event.   The open vodka bar is what makes it. It is what drew people to the event & the sole reason for the easy socializing. The price is a bargain $10 for women & $20 for men. Anyone can afford that but this event did not attract anyone who would not be considered “classy” or “well educated” or atleast “hot”. There were a group of girls sitting/standing around waiting for guys to talk to them.  Although, I am positively 100% sure if they didn’t look like they were packing heat or sharp objects in their tiny purses….the guys at the event would have approached them AND they would have had a much better time. The music was good & wasn’t too loud. When I worked the crowd I met with women and men who worked in law, finance, IT and marketing. If you are looking for a place to mingle that does not cost a lot then I would recommend going to an overtimenyc.com event. But please ladies check  your sharp objects, deadly stares & bad attitudes at coat check for you will have a much better time without them. I promise.

But check it out…. these people really were enjoying themselves. Pictures do not lie…. Join overtimenyc.com at their next event.

Truth be told I miss you… Truth be told IM LYING!!!!!!!!

Writing by Jessica on Saturday, 4 of April , 2009 at 3:19 pm

I’m taking a few minutes away from my vacation to write about an important issue… (yeah you got me to step away from my vacation…happy now?)

Some people deal with breakups better than others. Some people are just bi-polar and don’t handle life well in general.  FYI- if you call your ex’s parent and complain about them going on vacation, writing blogs about cheaters blah blahhhh blahhhhh WEEKSSS after the breakup… you really need to get a life immediately. And by immediately I mean you should have gotten a life YESTERDAY.

FYI- if talking to your shrink is clearly not helping you… you need to switch shrinks immediately. And by immediately I mean like YESTERDAY.

FYI- if your 33 and have more baggage than an airport. Do the world a favor and go kill yourself.

For those of you having a problem moving along in life due to a breakup, loss whatever the case may be… because we the writers at midnight makeout want you to MOVE ON and leave your ex’s alone… check out these sites. AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST LEARN IT, LIVE IT AND FUCKING LOVE IT.

Advice for those of you with new girlfriends who have crazy psycho ex boyfriends.

Letting go of the past and move ON.

Where the crazy bi-polar guys shop for their next victim to abuse.
